Check out this great article from DNAinfo on why you need to care about who is your Committeeman

What is a Committeeman?

Committeeman is an unpaid elected official who manages party politics.   Committeemen designate and promote candidates to be on the ballot for public office.  The Committeeman’s influence includes choosing replacements for local officials who step down, supporting candidates for office and encouraging active voter participation.   An active and visible Committeeman can engage voters throughout the 39th Ward to find the best qualified candidates, ensure that voters concerns are heard, and operate in an open and transparent way.  This position will be a spring-board for the development of an independent Democratic organization similar to what is happening in others wards in the city.  Committeemen have sway over state-wide and county-wide offices.  For years our current committeeman has been the tool of the Machine, under the control of Berrios and those who support him.

Why Run for Committeeman?

In February 2015 The 39th Ward saw a sea-change in how it looked at the current regime holding office - 47% said it was time to change.  Having come so close in such a short amount of time on such a small budget (outspent 5 to 1) the fight needs to continue, not just for aldmeran but for all the elected positions in the 39th Ward.  I fought very hard to make this change happen, and the best way to utilize the support and name recognition I gained in that race for the benefit of all the ward is by seeking this office that the Laurino-D'Amico family have used to maintain their hold over us.  Times have changed, but the family is not.

By gaining the office of Committeeman, we will bring this ward one step closer to having a true independent voice.

Why is Robert the Best Candidate?

In running for alderman Robert worked tirelessly and tenaciously for change and transparency in the 39th Ward.   Change and accountability are overdue in this ward and Robert has committed himself to seeing that this change happens.  Robert was able to bring together the interests of the entire ward through his campaign, to give voice to concerns over safety, economic development, transportation, noise, and education.   Robert showed that by joining as one voice we can begin to see the changes and progress this ward deserves.  It is only in this way can real change begin.  Your interests are not their family interests.  You deserve better.

Robert will be an Independent Democratic voice for the voters of the 39th Ward.  Robert shares and understands your concerns, but he is not tied down to the Machine that has pushed this great city to the brink.  It is past time to break the stranglehold that one family has had over this ward for 52 years.   One family rule:  It’s working for them, not for you.   There has been nothing and no one to hold this family accountable to how your tax dollars are spent, for how your ward is developed, for putting planes over your heads and to how our schools are funded.  Please join this campaign and together we will change that.

39th Ward Community Inauguration Celebration

Meet and greet your new 39th Ward Democratic Committeeman, Robert Murphy

Robert Murphy for 39th Ward Committeeman has been endorsed by Ald. John Arena and the 45th Ward Independent Dems.  We are proud to have Ald. Arena's endorsement and honored to be endorsed by his grassroots organization.  THANK YOU!

Robert Murphy for 39th Ward Committeeman has been endorsed and now adopted by Northside Democracy for America (NDFA).  NDFA has adopted the committeeman campaigns of Robert Murphy (39), Aaron Goldstein (33), and Dianne Daleiden (40) as the NW Slate.  We are proud to have NDFA's endorsement and honored to be adopted by this grassroots organization.  Our campaign was adopted by a unanimous vote of members present.   THANK YOU!

Robert Murphy has declared his intention of running for 39th Ward Committeeman against the current alderman's husband whose hold on the post has ensured the continuence of 52 years of one family rule.   "The residents and voters of the 39th Ward deserve new leadership and new ideas during these challenging times," said Robert.  "The current committeeman has supported those in his family that have led to our city and state to the brink of insolvency.  It is time for this cycle of dysfunction to end."

The solution exists! Robert Murphy helped draft the FAiR Policy Statement, which has been adopted by over 20 elected officials, including both Congressmen Quigley and Schakowsky.

  • More noise monitors have been added - thanks to your efforts!
  • Federal officials are pushing for FAA changes - thanks to your efforts!
  • Ineffective officials have been removed - thanks to your efforts!
  • The conversation has changed - thanks to your efforts!

Robert Murphy endorsed by the Chicago Tribune for 39th Ward Alderman.

"Our pick is Murphy, who says he began knocking on the alderman's door shortly after his house was mapped into the 39th Ward. He wanted improvements to Forest Glen Avenue; he wanted Laurino to help set up a meeting with the mayor about O'Hare International Airport. What he got, he says, was "lip service." Murphy wants to develop walkable retail districts so shoppers stay close to home instead of driving to Niles and Lincolnwood. He wants to partner with City Colleges to train workers for the light industrial strip that runs down the middle of the ward. He has a far greater sense of urgency about city finances than does Laurino."
